The next hike will be on Saturday, 5th October.
We meet at the Ballpark in Gillies Bay at 10:00am.
Last week we met at the Legion Parking in Van Anda and then car-pooled to the trail head on a logging road to the north of Kirk Lake. The trail at first climbs through a forested area and over the eastern end of Kirk Lake Bluffs then along the base of a high rocky cliff face eventually dropping steeply to a wet valley bottom. Here the trail joins an old logging road heading west and soon climbs gently leaving the forest and eventually reaching a steep sided hill we call 'The Grassy Knoll'. The wide view from the top covers much of the northern reaches of the Salish Sea with the high peaks of Quadra Island in the far distance.

The Grassy Knoll is a lovely viewpoint west of Kirk Lake located towards the north end of Texada Island - a Trekkers group photo [MM]
