We meet at the Ballpark in Gillies Bay at 10:00am.
Last week we had a very small group for the hike on a day when the weather was quite mild for January, but quite foggy and windless. We drove the short distance along the road to Davie Bay and parked close to Eagle Creek. From there the route to our chosen lunch spot meanders through the forest and goes mostly downhill to a low cliff directly above the ocean. The sea was calm and visibility probable close to 2km so we were hoping to see some interesting marine mammals, but apart from a single seal there were none to be seen at all.
My photo shows three plastic gadgets we saw that I assume are insect traps. They did not seem to have caught much, but I think they would be left in place for a few months and are maybe very new. I believe the idea is to catch insects that are of interest to forest management and I think I may do a little online searching on the subject.
