Next Hike

The next hike will be on Saturday, 30th November.

We meet at the Ballpark in Gillies Bay at 10:00am.

Last week we decided to explore some more of an old and quite overgrown logging road in the area to the south of Black Mountain.  It starts from a crossroad near the big beaver pond we call Blown-up Trailer Lake and heads downhill through the forest along the small creek that exits from the beaver dam.  We followed it for a short distance until it became so overgrown it was difficult to follow.  As we could see a very small bluff ahead we stopped there for lunch, and as we ate we wondered what the view might be like if the fog we were in could clear enough to let us see. It never did. 

 While the thick fog prevented us from seeing a distant view it also created this oddball scene in my photo of the week.  A young forest was drowned and the trees died soon after some beavers decided to dam the small creek and create a new pond - because that's what beaver do.
