The next hike will be on Saturday, 21st December.
We meet at the Ballpark in Gillies Bay at 10:00am
Last week the hikers met in Van Anda and drove along Crescent Bay road to hike on Woodwardia at the invitation of James Mack the owner. This part of Texada has a large area of undisturbed forest and a stretch of rugged coastline that is important habitat for several species of marine animals large and small. I was busy all day with counting birds as part of the international annual Christmas Bird Count so I was not able to participate in the hike this time. The route followed was a circular one that climbed quite steeply to the high point of land directly east of Favada Point on the coast and then south down through a fairly rugged area of forest back to the start point close to sea-level.

At the high point of the Woodwardia hike last week the view looks south over the Salish Sea. [MM photo]
